Two WSPA members were recently featured in the news. 

Dr. Wally Wilkins was quoted in The Seattle Times article, "Daylight saving time ends this weekend: Don’t let ‘fall back’ worsen your 2020 depression"

Dr. Leslie Blevins was featured in Spokane + Coeur d'Alene Living Magazine, "20 under 40: The professionals shaping our city" (skip to page 64)

2020 Post Convention Events Nov 20th through December 11th

An article about our highly successful virtual convention will be in the Washington Psychologist Year in Review that will be published in December.

Several events that happen during WSPA's regular in person convention were not included in the virtual convention and are scheduled to take place in the next few weeks.
 
Newly Licensed Psychologist Celebration
November 20, 2020
11:30 am to 1 pm via Zoom
 
This annual event was started several years ago by the Early Career Psychologists patterned after a similar type of welcome to the profession celebration for lawyers. Those who have received their license within the past two years were invited by special invitation. A member of the Examining Board of Psychology is invited to attend the celebration and answer any questions from the newly licensed attendees. Following the celebration, Dr's Andrew Benjamin and Stephan Feldman provide a free 1 CE Ethics workshop.

Student Poster Session
December 4, 2020
11:30 am to 1 pm via Zoom
 
The WSPA Grad Student committee has organized a virtual poster session. Graduate and undergraduate students in psychology, including doctoral interns and postdoctoral residents in Washington State were invited to submit posters on any ongoing or completed research, especially any research highlighting this year’s Fall Convention’s theme: Fostering Resilience in Challenging Times.

Submission deadline is Friday, November 20th at this link
 
 
Annual All Member Annual Meeting
Washington Psychologist Awards
December 11, 2020
4:00 pm

 
All WSPA members are considered stakeholders of the association and are welcome to attend the Annual Meeting. This meeting will give attendees an overview of the association's leadership, goals, committees, initiatives, membership growth or decline, and positive or negative financial picture. 

The Annual Stakeholder's meeting will be virtual on Friday, December 11th and will start promptly at 4 pm via Zoom and is expected to last 45 minutes including time for Q & A. The meeting will precede the Annual Washington Psychologists Awards.
No registration is needed to attend, visit the Annual Meeting page to join the meeting.

The annual Washington Psychologists Awards will follow the annual meeting.

The following categories are open for nomination, Nominations are due by Monday, November 30th:

Distinguished Psychologist Award:
Given in recognition of significant contributions to the field of psychology. This award recognizes outstanding professional contributions to knowledge, to applied psychology in professional practice, or in the public interest, while a resident of Washington State. (Open to non-WSPA members)

Distinguished Service Award:
Given in recognition of outstanding work in support of WSPA's mission through some outstanding contribution.

G. Andrew H. Benjamin Award:
Given in recognition of an individual members outstanding and tireless contributions to the Washington State Psychological Association.

Sustained Service Award:
Given in recognition of life-long service to WSPA and the field of psychology. This award recognizes a psychologist who has given sustained service to the association in a manner that has significantly benefited the organization and or facilitated its development.
 
Social Issues Award:
Given in recognition of outstanding work to advance the mental health of the community and to apply psychology in the public interest. (Open to non-WSPA members)
 
Public Citizen Award:
Honors a public citizen or an organization that has contributed to the psychological health of their community. (Open to non-WSPA members)
 
Legislative Service Award:
Honors a Washington State elected official who has contributed to the psychological health of their community. (Open to non-WSPA members)
 
Presidential Service Award:
Given to the out-going President of the Board, in recognition of the service rendered.
